2012 Olympics and security jobs
For an event on the scale of the 2012 Olympics you can expect that there will be a huge security presence throughout the games and for a long time after at the stadium and the Olympic village. According to the Met Assistant Commissioner, Chris Allison; ‘spectators to the games can expect airport-style security systems in place’. No surprise then that there will be a requirement for highly trained security staff with SIA Licence approval.
There are reports of cuts in the budgets of Chief Constables of up to 20% as the government plan to reign in a deficit of 11% based on national output, although it’s hoped that these cuts will be reviewed in order to cope with the law enforcement that will be required for the games. Estimated budgets for the 2012 Olympics and security range from £475 million to £600 million, but these estimates change on a daily basis.
