After finding his warehouse job increasingly stressful, a friend’s recommendation to explore the security industry sparked his interest. He was told it was “easier to get a job with it,” an appealing prospect for someone new to the country.

Taye’s research led him to Get Licensed, where he was drawn to the six-day Door Supervisor course. “The thing that actually interests me most is just the six-day course,” he said. “So I feel, with six days, I should be able to get a lot of things.”

The journey to the training centre was long, but he was determined, even coordinating with friends to travel together.

The training was a positive experience, largely thanks to his trainer, Paul Dixon, whom he described as “very, very good, because he had a lot of experience.”

The practical aspects of the course, like learning to use handcuffs and practising emergency procedures, were a highlight. When it came to the exam, Taye felt a mix of confidence and nerves, but his preparation on the GuardPass app paid off.
