Drake, the multimillionaire hit-making rapper. For someone who has sold approximately 150 million records, performed all over the world alongside high profile musicians such as Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, and not to mention previously nominated for 18 Grammy Awards in his 10 year career, you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that most people would know who the Canadian born rapper is and what he looks like.
Well, that wasn’t the case when Security Guard Donna Blackman found herself assigned with the task of protecting the star during his 10-day 02 Arena gig in London. The SIA licence holder, who was familiar with the performers rap and hip-Hop music but not of the musician himself, was unsure at first of what Drake actually looked like, as she walked along the backstage area in the indoor arena based in Greenwich desperately trying to find out the identity of the artist who she had been given the task to look after.
Are you here to see Mr Drake?
Deployed outside of the stars dressing room, Blackman was still none the wiser of what Drake actually looked like, as she caught a glimpse of a smartly dressed man walking towards her.
“Excuse me sir, I feel a bit embarrassed for asking you this, but do you know who Drake is?’ asked the confused Security Guard, as the smartly dressed gentlemen looked on and smiled”
Miraculously, the smartly dressed man just so happened to be Drakes father, who knew exactly what his son looked like, as the Security Guard looked on sheepishly.
10 days later and Donna had completed a sell-out arena stint with Drake, who always greeted the Security Guard with a high-five and a hug as he walked off stage after performing in front of thousands of screaming and adoring fans.
And as Donna walked out from the 02 Arena on her last day of the tour, she left knowing who exactly Drake was, and most importantly, what he looked like.
Dreams Money Can Buy
Enrolling herself onto the SIA Security Course, Donna would never have imagined that she would find herself looking after a multimillionaire world-renowned rapper as he studied for her SIA Licence. Working in the security industry, whether that be as a Door Supervisor or a Security Guard can open up a lot of exciting and varying opportunities.
Getting your SIA Licence is easy, what you do with it once you have it is up to you.
