You’ve got your SIA Licence and are ready for work. Nice one! You’ve learned lots of new information and skills from your security course<\/a>. But as a legal qualification, there are also important conditions of your SIA Licence you need to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the conditions of having an SIA Licence<\/a>? Your training instructor will have helped you understand this information, but it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by the documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conditions of your SIA Licence — The Six Commitments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To ensure you keep your licence, you must always comply with SIA Code of Conduct. These rules are also called the Six Commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of it is common sense, and it’s in place to protect you, the businesses you work with, and the public. Keep them in mind when you’re on the job, and you can’t go wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Act with honesty and integrity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

SIA Licence holders:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Need to be honest with their employers, the employers’ clients, and anyone else they meet on duty<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Should never allow themselves to be manipulated by people<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Should not be involved in any illegal activities or groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Should comply with the Code of Conduct, and not victimise anyone who claims they have gone against the Code<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    2. Be trustworthy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Licence holders must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Not seize anyone’s property without a lawful reason, or damage it<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Not take advantage of others for their own gain, or abuse the power of their position towards vulnerable people<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Respect and protect confidential information, except when it is unlawful to do so<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Not carry out their duties with a weapon of any kind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
