I watched a short clip<\/a> recently of Lord Sarfraz talking about robots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He wasn\u2019t hyped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He wasn\u2019t defensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He wasn\u2019t trying to impress anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His point was simple: don\u2019t be scared<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robots are coming. Not in a sci-fi way. Not marching down the street. In quiet, practical ways. Picking fruit. Supporting agriculture. Restarting manufacturing in the UK. Doing the kind of repetitive, physical work that\u2019s hard to staff, hard to sustain, and hard to scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They don\u2019t take holidays. They don\u2019t need GP appointments. They don\u2019t bring families with them. They\u2019re not migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019re tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And tools have always changed the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What struck me wasn\u2019t the technology. It was the tone. The lack of fear. The lack of drama. Just acceptance \u2014 and curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve Been Here Before<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

History tells us something very boring but very true: civilisations that resist technology don\u2019t preserve anything. They just fall behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every generation thinks this time is different. That this technology is dangerous. That it will take something essential away from us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The printing press. Electricity. Cars. Computers. The internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Same story. Same fear. Same outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology Isn\u2019t a Choice \u2014 It\u2019s a Force<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kevin Kelly once described technology as a force of nature. Not something we vote on. Not something we opt out of. A force \u2014 like evolution. Or gravity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that makes sense. Because who builds technology?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humans do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We didn\u2019t stop evolving. We just changed how we do it. Instead of growing claws or sharper teeth, we built tools. We extended ourselves. A hammer is an extension of the fist. A telescope extends the eye. A computer extends the brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI is just the next extension. It\u2019s not anti-human; it\u2019s deeply human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which brings me to security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Next Chapter For Security<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t believe security officers are going to disappear. I\u2019ve never believed that. If anything, I think the opposite is true. But the idea of the lone, under-equipped, reactive guard? That era is over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future is the augmented security officer. A human being \u2014 but with better tools. Better information. Better awareness. Faster context. Less guesswork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can easily imagine officers using AI-assisted systems. Real-time intelligence. Augmented eyewear that highlights risk. Predictive alerts instead of panicked radio calls after something has already happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not Terminator. More R2-D2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology doing what it\u2019s good at \u2014 pattern recognition, repetition, scale. Humans doing what only humans can do \u2014 judgement, empathy, de-escalation, presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because security isn\u2019t really about force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s about presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And presence is human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety Isn\u2019t Just Measured \u2014 It\u2019s Felt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I spend most of my waking hours thinking about efficiency. Not in a cold way. In a human way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do we make the world safer? Not just statistically safer \u2014 but felt safer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because safety has two sides. There\u2019s the objective side: fewer incidents, faster response, better outcomes. And then there\u2019s the subjective side: how safe people feel in their homes, on their streets, in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology helps with both. But only if it\u2019s designed with intent. Fear-based security models \u2014 endless alarms, sirens, cameras everywhere \u2014 optimise for anxiety. They tell people something bad is always about to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A better model says something quieter: You\u2019re not alone.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If something happens, someone will respond. And they\u2019ll be informed, equipped, and human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the future I\u2019m interested in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where We Stand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At Get Licensed<\/a>, we don\u2019t see technology as a threat to the security industry. We see it as a responsibility. A way to raise standards. A way to remove drudgery. A way to give professionals the tools they deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology doesn\u2019t remove responsibility. It sharpens it. It doesn\u2019t replace dignity. It restores it. The real question isn\u2019t whether robots, AI, or automation are coming. They are<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The question is whether we meet them with fear \u2014 or with maturity. Whether we use them to make work better. Communities calmer. Security more professional. Response more human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord Sarfraz is right. There\u2019s nothing to be afraid of. The future of security isn\u2019t less human. It\u2019s human, supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if we get that right, we don\u2019t just build safer systems \u2014 we build a more confident society.
