That\u2019s great news for business owners, but not so great news for door supervisors. Chances are, if you\u2019re working this weekend, your hands are going to be full.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only will you have worry about monitoring the swelling crowds of people queuing or gathering outside the venue, but you\u2019ll also have to ensure that they\u2019re kept under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, because we\u2019re feeling charitable, we thought we\u2019d share some quick tips on how to best cope with the chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-be-nice\">Be nice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While It\u2019s tempting to be on your guard, drunks will respond better to someone who approaches them in a friendly manner, opposed to an authoritative one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-call-for-friendly-back-up\">Call for \u2018friendly\u2019 back-up<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If a situation escalates, you might assume calling for backup to be the best course of action to follow, but believe it or not, the most effective means of support will be involving the drunk\u2019s sober friend or colleague. The drunk will always better respond to a friend rather than a member of security staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/get-daily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/hunters-race-408744-unsplash-1.jpg\" alt=\"hunters-race-408744-unsplash (1)\" class=\"wp-image-6126\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-never-try-to-boss-a-drunk-around\">&nbsp;Never try to boss a drunk around<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how rowdy a drunk might get, when reasoning with one, I\u2019s always a good idea to speak to them in a non-dictating tone. The simple fact is, drunks don\u2019t like being told what to do. So instead, when engaging with them, offer choices like, \u2018Want me to call you a cab?\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019d rather help you out, than have to call the police.\u2019 Statements like these can save you a world of trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-don-t-show-fear\">Don\u2019t show fear<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If there\u2019s one thing drunks can sense, it\u2019s fear. They\u2019ll be times when a drunk is practically sniffing for it, aka \u2018looking for trouble\u2019 \u2013 so it\u2019s a good idea to appear confident yet non-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ask-them-questions-about-themselves\">Ask them questions about themselves<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sparing a few minutes to engage the drunk in a friendly manner, could potentially distract them turning violent or worse. When you can, try to direct the drunk away from the disturbance. This can be done both physically and verbally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember safety should always come first, not just for others, but yourself also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-work-in-the-security-sector\">How to work in the security sector<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in working in the security sector, whether it be as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operative, you will need to obtain a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/licence\/door-supervisor-licence\">SIA Licence<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.get-licensed.co.uk\/licence\/door-supervisor-licence\">SIA Licence<\/a>, you will need to complete a course.
