To raise awareness on the importance of safe and efficient restraint techniques applied by Door Supervisors and those that work within the security industry, the Security Industry Authority has launched a case study to highlight why applying accurate restraint techniques is important, and how a wrong hold can have fatal consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are\u00a0restraint techniques?<\/h2>\n

The security industry involves many high risks, one of which is encountering potential violent and often hostile individuals. As a result, Door Supervisors and Security Staff may find themselves involved in confrontations with members of the public which may necessitate physically restraining a violent person.<\/p>\n

These are called restraint techniques and are applied by professional trained Door Supervisors and Security Staff who have undergone Door Supervisor Training<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When should physical restraint be used?<\/h2>\n

Physical intervention should only be used as a last resort and it is always recommended that Door Supervisors always use other means to defuse a situation and prevent it from escalating to a hazardous incident where violence and further damage may occur.<\/p>\n

There are techniques of restraint that have been associated with sudden and unexpected deaths. Door Supervisors and Security Staff must be aware of the potential dangers and risks associated with restraint techniques and take every precaution to ensure they adopt safe practice at all times.<\/p>\n

What does the SIA case study include?<\/h2>\n

The Security Industry Authority have produced a case study to help Door Supervisors and Security Staff to recognise how they can better protect themselves and others by reducing the need for physical intervention and to encourage safe practice in sometimes confrontational situations.<\/p>\n
