Job Summary
Shift Pattern - Weekend Day shift
THIS POST IS BASED IN BRIXHAM HARBOUR
Due to the nature of the contract, you must hold a valid SIA DS licence and have at least 1 years’ experience. You must be polite, well presented, well spoken, friendly and yet assertive.
You will need excellent communication & report writing skills to assist you with your duties to deliver excellent guarding and security services in accordance with contract requirements.
Role
Manage the harbour gates as required, to control site security and public access, regulation of traffic movement, vehicle access and control of parking on Harbour Estate
Control the navigation and safe berthing of all vessels utilising the waters and facilities of the harbour, including commercial vessels, passenger ferries and leisure craft.
Liaise with fishing vessels upon their arrival to understand their requirements, which include the provision of electrical and water services, collection of waste, the landing of fish and the delivery, embarkation, disembarkation of stores, equipment, provisions and other items.
Ensure the legitimate use of the Harbour Estate, including the prevention of fly tipping and the illegal use of the Harbour waste skips.
Be the first line responder for pollution control.
Collecting dues and charges for use of harbour facilities, as required.
Maintain daily Harbour Logs, vessel berthing records, fish landing records and other documentation as required and ensure they are submitted appropriately.
Control site security and public access, regulation of traffic movement, vehicle access and parking on Harbour Estate.
Liaise with vessels upon their arrival, by VHF or other communication methods to understand their requirements. This includes:
(a) Provision of electrical and water services.
(b) Collection of ship waste, waste oil and other landed substances
(c) The landing of fish and other stores.
(d) The delivery, embarkation and disembarkation of stores, equipment, provisions and other items.
(e) Directing vessels to appropriate berths/moorings; and if operationally require their subsequent movement to other berths or moorings within the harbour.
Control the legitimate use of the Harbour Estate, including the prevention of fly tipping and the illegal use of the Harbour rubbish skips.
Maintain daily Harbour Logs, vessel berthing records, fish landing records and other documentation as required and ensure they are submitted appropriately.
Reporting concerns regarding compliance with Health and safety by fishing vessels and their crews, harbour users, members of the public or other Harbour Staff to the Harbour Master and/or his officers.
Be prepared to be the first responder to deal with anything requiring special attention, e.g., oil pollution or hazardous substances.
The Supplier shall ensure that continuity is maintained and that guards who are familiar with the Site and its staff are repeatedly deployed, to the greatest extent possible, in order to provide the Service.
You Must
· Hold a valid SIA Door Supervisors Licence
. Hold a valid CCTV License – or be willing to obtain one within the first 3 months of employment – subsidised by SGC
· Have the ability to use your own initiative
· Maintain a high visibility in and around the Harbour
· Have good communication skills
· Have strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills
Be able to commit to weekends- 12 Hours - 06:00-18:00
