Three years ago, Ahsen Raza was a student looking for part-time work.

He took his first security course and began a journey that would not only provide him with a career but also foster significant personal growth. From flexible shifts in retail and at festivals to his current permanent role at a student accommodation, Ahsen’s story is a testament to the diverse opportunities within the security industry.

He is most proud of his commitment to the students’ well-being. “I do go overboard to help the students, you know, to feel better and everything,” he shared. “If they are in any problem, I can, I will do my best to solve this problem.”

This dedication is balanced with a sharp understanding of the realities of security work. He recalls a pivotal moment from a pre-festival shift where he spotted a group of hostile individuals attempting to steal equipment. Instead of confronting them alone, he radioed his partner to call the police while he kept a safe distance.

The incident was prevented, teaching him a crucial lesson in teamwork and self-preservation.

I had to, you know, prevent an incident… and also not risk my life as well, because you need to set yourself first

Having recently refreshed his knowledge with the Door Supervisor refresher course with Get Licensed, Ahsen encourages anyone considering the field to see it as a path for development. “It’s quite a diverse industry, so it’s not like you don’t grow as a person,” he states.
