For Reginald Ukwuoma, moving to the UK for his master’s degree meant finding a way to balance his studies with earning a living. Having never worked before, he needed a role that offered flexibility and the chance to meet new people. A friend recommended the security industry, and it turned out to be the perfect fit.

After completing his Door Supervisor course, Reginald obtained his SIA licence in October 2025 and quickly found his footing. He now works across different venues, from pubs to massive stadiums, enjoying the dynamic environment each shift brings. He found the course content directly applicable to his day-to-day work.

“Everything I learned during the course is currently what I’m applying to my job as a door supervisor.”

Of all the venues he has worked at, stadiums are his favourite. 

“The stadium is more interactive. I’m able to interact with more people than at the pub. They come into the venue happy, and they kind of want to interact with you, and they also leave happy, depends on how the game goes anyway.”

Reginald credits his smooth transition into the industry to the strong teamwork he experiences on the ground. Working alongside seasoned professionals has allowed him to learn quickly and handle challenging situations with confidence. Whether it’s de-escalating a tense situation at a pub or managing an away fan trying to break through a barrier at a stadium, he knows he can rely on his team.

“It’s not a one-person job, so it makes it easier. I’m able to learn from people who have been doing the job even before I came, and it’s quite easier on the job as we’re able to learn and work together.”
