6 Weird Jobs That Require A Licence To Work

Requiring a licence for a job is mandatory in a lot of sectors and industries, with security being one of them. Others, however are a lot less obvious and a little bit, well.. weird!

In the United States, acquiring the American dream doesnโ€™t come easily until you acquire a license. But a license to wash peopleโ€™s hair? Really!?

As strange as it may seem to us brits here in the UK, licenses and weirdness just seem to go hand and hand in some choice states in America.

So, with that being said and mustering up all our American patriotism. Here are 6 weird jobs that require a licence to work.

    Makeup Artist

Makeup artists are licensed in 36 states and actually require a license to apply make-up to clients. A legal requirement to apply a bit of foundation and eye shadow? Who would have thought!

    Auctioneers

Auctioneers legally require a license in 33 states to be able to auction off items during a bidden event. If an auctioneer does not have a licence within these states, then it could be a case of going, going GONE, and with a hefty fine to match.

    Funeral Attendant

It is a legal requirement in 9 states for a funeral attendant to hold a licence. So, if thatโ€™s the case, then they shouldnโ€™t be seen dead without one (see what we did there).

    Florist

Speaking of which, if you just so happen to die in Louisiana, you should at least make sure that your florist has a license first; otherwise, there wonโ€™t be any flower arrangements at your funeral.

    Interior Designer

Want someone to come and design your house? Well, you should make sure that they have a license first. In 4 states, it is a mandatory requirement for interior designers to hold a license, as well as a flair for creativity.

    Shampooer

Yes, you even require a licence to be able to wash someoneโ€™s greasy hair. 5 states currently license shampooers who only shampoo and rinse customersโ€™ hair in salons. However, whether or not you need a license to blow-dry still remains to be confirmed.

Have you come across any wacky and weird licenses? Let us know in the comments section. Let us just hope that you donโ€™t need a license for that too.

How to work in the security sector

A job that you do need a licence for is working in the security sector. If you are interested in working in the security sector, whether it be as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operative, you will need to obtain an SIA Licence.

To obtain an SIA Licence, you will need to complete a course. Once you have completed the course, will you then be able to apply for an SIA Licence and work in the security sector.
