      If youโ€™re considering this industry as a career choice, donโ€™t sign up just yet. You may qualify for a discount, souse the following checklist to see if you qualify for a discount or a free SIA course.

      1. You have already applied for an SIA licence

      There are various categories of the UK SIA licence. If youโ€™ve already applied for one of them, you may qualify for a discount on your next application. There are terms & conditions to this discount, but many applicants miss out because they donโ€™t know about it.

      The SIA website clearly states that if youโ€™ve applied for an SIA licence before, you qualify for a 50% discount on your next one. So, if youโ€™ve already applied for a security guard licence, but now want to apply for door supervisor licence, you only pay half price. In addition, you can apply for multiple licenses in one application process. If you didnโ€™t know that this works out cheaper, now you know.

      2. You have a friend who would benefit from the training

      Many security training courses in the UK offer discounts on training when individuals refer their friends. A refer-a-friend program is a great way to train with your friends while paying much less for your course. Chat to other like-minded individuals such as friends and family members and see just how cheap you could get your training for.

      3. Youโ€™ve been nominated for free training

      • You must be on a job seeker’s, employment support or income support allowance
      • You must be at least 18 years of age
      • You must be a UK resident with a valid work permit

      4. Your employer has agreed to sponsor you

      Do you already work in the security industry? If your employer is willing to grow your career for his or her own benefit, you could get them to pay a portion of your training. Some employers will offer to pay the full price, while others will subsidise the amount. Either way, if you donโ€™t ask you donโ€™t get. So, ask your employer if you can expand your qualification and get a massive discount on your training.

      How to work in the security sector

      If you are interested in working in the security sector, whether it be as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operative, you will need to obtain aย SIA Licence.

      To obtain a SIA Licence, you will need to complete a course. Once you have completed the course, will you then be able to apply for an SIA Licence and work in the security sector.
