If you are thinking of holding an event and selling alcohol and donโ€™t have a premises license youโ€™ll need a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).

      What is a TEN?

A Temporary Event Notice allows you to hold licensable events at unlicensed premises. By applying for a TEN you donโ€™t need a premises licence or the presence of a personal licence holder.

How do I apply for a one?

The steps for applying for a TEN are:

      1. Your application should be sent to your local council.

      2. The application must be submitted ten days before the planned event.

      3. The application will be reviewed and rejected or approved.

Not getting oneย can lead to a fine or a prison sentence of up to six months.

What can I do with a TEN?

A licensable activity applies to the sale or supply of alcohol but also to the serving of hot food betweenย 11pm and 5am. You’ll also need a TEN if you are planning to open outside of your normal licensed hours.

Who can object to my application?

The Police can object to your application if they believe it may lead to crime and disorder. Once you submit your application, the Police have two working days to make any objections known.

      Are there restrictions?

Getting a TEN doesnโ€™t mean you can do anything there are some restrictions.

      1. You can have up toย 499 people at your event.
      2. Normally licensing laws apply including the restriction of the sale of alcohol to minors and to drunk people.

What is I am late with my TEN application?

If you miss the 10 days before deadline, you can apply for a late TEN. This application has to be submitted five days before your event.

How many can I apply for?

The number of TEN applications varies whether you have a personal alcohol license. Without an APLH you can:
