We have a lot of queries here at Get Licensed about whether you can have more than one SIA licence and whether it’s a good idea. So here’s Thom to answer your questions.

      What licenses work well together?

Jobs and work within the security industry are linked together and so licences have crossovers between them. Thinking of this the licences that function best together are the Door Supervisor SIA licence and the CCTV SIA licence. We also often see individuals with Close Protection SIA licenceLicences obtaining CCTV licenses too.

Do I have to do the whole course again?

The courses are very different for the Door Supervisor and CCTV Operative badges and so yes you will need to attend the full course. The CCTV Operative course has hands-on learning with equipment and the Door Supervisor course has physical intervention practical parts.

The good news is that because Unit 1 is the same in the Door Supervisor and CCTV Operative courses you don’t need to do this module twice. So if your SIA licence is in date when you are attending the course for another licence this module can be skipped.

      Will it be expensive?

The price for the licence can often be a factor in people deciding not to have two licenses. The Security Industry Authority reaslised this and made it more affordable. The normal price for applying for a licence is ยฃ221 but if you already hold a licence the cost for your second licence is half price.

      Is it worth it?

Remember the old line ‘speculate to accumulate’ well with training and qualifications this is especially true. There are 368,098 frontline SIA licences currently held in the UK at the moment. There are 219,549 Door Supervisor licenses and 46,892 CCTV licences. This makes the security field a highly competitive place. This means that standing out from the crowd is very important in finding work. Having a second licence can really help in finding work and can increase your pay too. With increased pay it doesn’t take long to earn back the extra cost of the two licences.

Get Licensed have helped over 200,000 people find the best training courses in the UK. We have a lot of experience in the industry so let us help you find a course today and see where it can take you.
