Anyone applying for a Personal Licence will need to undergo a DBS Check as part of their application. There are three types of DBS checks available. Basic Disclosure, Standard DBS Check or Enhanced DBS Check.

When it comes to applying for a DBS Check as part of your Personal Licence application, a Basic Disclosure will do.

What is a Basic Disclosure?

Sometimes referred to as a Basic DBS check or basic criminal record check, a Basic Disclosure is carried out by the DBS for people living or working in England or Wales. For those living or working in Scotland, this check will be completed by Disclosure Scotland.

A basic disclosure will search for any unspent convictions and conditional cautions on an individual’s criminal history in order to make an informed hire and prevents the hiring of unsuitable candidates around vulnerable groups.

What you’ll need for a Basic Disclosure

To apply for a basic DBS check you’ll need:

  • all your addresses for the last 5 years and the dates you lived there
  • your National Insurance number
  • a debit or credit card
  • your passport
  • your driving licence

A Basic Disclosure DBS check can be done via the Official UK Government Website.

How to get a personal licence

If you are interested in applying for a Personal Licence, you will need to pass a APLH training course first. Once you have completed the APLH course, will you then be able to apply for a Personal Licence.
