Are you considering taking a door supervisor course to launch your new career?

When you invest in training, you want to know what to expect and what you will learn on the course. In this blog, we will talk you through the SIA door supervisor training course, from booking to attending.

First of all, before you ever consider booking a course with Get Licensed, you should always get a feel for the course by downloading the free GuardPass app. The app is a great resource, and you can access thousands of mock test questions for the SIA course.

      Mock Exam

It’s essential that you get a feel for the course and whether you find it interesting. The mock questions are delivered the same way your test will be at the end of the course. They are short questions with four possible multiple-choice answers. After you are comfortable with the questions and know you can handle the course material, it’s time to book your course. You can do this on the site or app and manage your booking on the app if you choose.

As soon as you book the course, we will send you a pack including all your course material, including a first aid book. You will also receive a free licence band to use when you land your first job. The materials will help you to learn before you attend the course, making passing the course a breeze. You’ll also be able to swat up before the course by taking more and more mock tests on the GuardPass app.

The door supervisor course lasts for six days. It’s a jam-packed day, usually from 8 am until 5:30 pm. But with expert trainers who have guided thousands of successful attendees to gaining their SIA licence, you’ll be in great hands. During the course, you’ll cover the following modules:

Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry

Private Security Industry: The Legal Aspects

      Recent changes from 2021

Following recent changes to improve public safety and utilise security personnel’s skills, additional skills are learned on the SIA course. From April 2021, you must also be competent in First Aid, which means holding at least an Emergency First Aid At Work certification, a one-day course.

New changes have also extended the scope of the knowledge that is now covered, which addresses many issues related to public safety, including spiking.

      • Dealing with an allegation of sexual assault as a security professional
      • Recognising the moral and/or legal obligation to ensure public safety
      • Knowledge of date rape drugs such as GHB that are often used in spiking incidents to aid a sexual assault
      • Identifying factors that make a person vulnerable to abuse or has been abused
      • Understanding the actions that should be taken to protect a vulnerable person
      • Monitoring behaviours that are used by sexual predators, such as buying drinks, watching unsupervised drinks and skirting with mobile phones
      • Knowing when it is appropriate to call the assistance of a taxi, friend or when the police should be called
      • The following of the correct procedures regarding the organisation’s policies and recording details and information for police reports.

You’ll undoubtedly have learned loads by the time you have finished the course. But don’t worry; you won’t be thrown in at the deep end when you get your first gig as a security guard. You’ll join a team that will help you put the theory you learned at the course into practice as you learn the ropes in your new career. So what are you waiting for? Check out the GuardPass app today, then book your local course. You can even spread the cost over 6 -12 weeks.
