Events are part of the British Summer with thousands of us heading out in to a field at some point hoping for the sun and great music!  This can make the summer season lucrative for people in the security industry as with the huge attendances lots of security at music events is needed.

Many people in the security industry use the summer season to work part time at weekends to supplement income.

This is a great job for students. It’s also a great job for some extra work.

What are the hours like?

Working in security at music festivals can be a varied role. The hours at music festivals are like the others at most night-economy jobs. They can be hours spread over the day or the evening. The work is varied which can make the days fly by!

What are the different jobs at festivals?

As with many jobs in the Security Industry working as security at music festivals can be very varied. Ranging from crowd control and general patrolling to bar area work. You may also be responsible for ensuring safety during the concert making sure that people in the crowd are all ok. Combine this with the electric environment of a music festival and this makes for some really interesting work.

If you already have some supervision experience getting a more senior role at an event or festival can see you taking a management role, making decisions on placement of security and being involved in more serious incidents.

What can I earn working in security at music festivals?

As with all other jobs, earnings will be dependent on your experience but for working as security at music festivals you can expect between £9-13 depending on your level of seniority.

It isn’t just festivals

The summer season is also full of other events, from horse racing to motor racing events. Working in these varied environments can be good for your wallet but also having a range of experience can be great for your CV.

How I need to work in security at music festivals?

Remember if you are working anywhere where alcohol is consumed you will need to have a Door Supervisor SIA licence. Without a Door Supervisor licence you will not be able to work.

How to work in the security sector

If you are interested in working in the security sector, whether it be as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operative, you will need to obtain a SIA Licence.

To obtain a SIA Licence, you will need to complete a course. Once you have completed the course, will you then be able to apply for an SIA Licence and work in the security sector.
