What is the Black CSCS Manager Card?

If you have achieved your SVQ or NVQ level 5 certification in management, getting a Black CSCS card can drive career development and make you a better asset to employers.

Eligibility

You are eligible for the Black CSCS Manager Card if you have one of the following:​

 

✅ Achieved a level 5, 6, 7 SVQ or NVQ certification in management in a construction environment.

 

✅ Achieved the CIOB L4 Diploma in Site Management.

 

✅ All attendees must have passed the Managers and Professionals CITB Health and Safety Test before seeking this certification.

 

How do I apply for a Black CSCS Manager Card?

You can apply for the Black CSCS Manager Card over the phone by directly calling the Construction Skills Certification Scheme on 0344 99 44 777. You will need to email evidence of your qualifications to cscs@citb.co.uk prior to calling.  

To obtain a Black CSCS Manager Card, it's essential to first obtain a Green CSCS Labourer Card and gain the required skills, knowledge, as well as experience required for construction site management. CSCS Cards are issued as part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. The scheme aims to increase safety on construction sites and to ensure that those working in the construction industry have the necessary health and safety knowledge. Having a card contributes towards the overall safety and standard of a construction site.

The CSCS Card is not a legal requirement, but is highly recommended, as many contractors only employ those that have the card. Some construction projects may also have certain conditions regarding CSCS Cards, meaning you will need the card to work at certain sites.

The application cost to obtain a CSCS card is £30. However, there are also other costs for external tests or courses which increase the price.

Who pays for your CSCS Card depends on the agreement that you have with your employer. Some employers will pay for their staff to obtain a CSCS Card, others will expect the employee to pay for it themselves.

It takes up to 5 working days for your CSCS card to arrive. You will need to contact CSCS directly and apply for it. Make sure that you have your assessment certificate handy, as this will be required when you apply.

This card is valid for five years and can be renewed.

You can seek to become a member of a professional institution and obtain the Professionally Qualified Person CSCS Card. Many Black Card holders go on to attain higher NVQ or SVQ levels.
