Wonderful experience being trained by…

"Wonderful experience being trained by Ben McCarty. He knows his job very well. Give us the trainees opportunities to express ourselves, ask questions and respond to them accordingly. But he is sometimes too fast with words that some of us who are not English native speakers sometimes find it a little difficult to follow along. But he’s a great trainer."

Completed the DS Top up course with Get licensed and passed. Adame who trained us was great, very professional and down to earth guy. Even though he’s had various jobs and years of experience in security he just treats you like a equal, no better than anyone attitude which is good. Professional training by trainers who WANT you to pass not a back street company. Will be definitely back again for further training. Thank you.

  • Understand the reasons for screening
  • Assist in developing an effective screening process
  • Understand how to apply the requirements in practice

The BS7858 Standard is the code of practice released by BSI (British Standards Institution) which details best practices and guidelines for the security screening of individuals employed within a security environment. It is also used where security screening is in the best interests of the public.

Following an interview and before limited screening the following must be completed as a minimum:

  • Establish a screening file
  • Information provided e.g. application form
  • Confirmation of identity and address
  • SIA licence validation
  • Public information search (not a credit check)
  • Global watchlist checks

Copies of checks undertaken should be retained in a screening file.

British Standard requirements for individual services dictate the screening requirements:

  • BS 7499 for Security Guarding - requires 5 year screening
  • BS PD 6662 Alarm Installation - requires 5 year screening
  • BS 7872 Cash and Valuables in Transit - requires 10 year screening
  • BS 5979 Alarm Receiving Centre - requires 5 year screening
  • BS 7984 Keyholding and Response - requires 5 year screening

‘This British Standard gives recommendations for the screening of individuals working in a secure environment where the security and/or safety of people, goods and services, data or property is a requirement of the employing organisation’s operations and/or where such screening is in the public interest.’
