If you want a career in the UK security industry, then you need an SIA Licence. An SIA Licence is required if you wish to work as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard, Bodyguard or CCTV Operator. SIA Licences are a legal requirement because it helps the security industry monitor its standards and clamp down on criminality.

      What is the Security Industry?

Working in the security industry means having to protect people, property or assets. As a security professional you are responsible for the safety of the public. Job opportunities range from working as a CCTV Operator, Door Supervisor, Security Guard and Close Protection Officer. Security industry professionals help to prevent risks, deter crime and report any crime they encounter.

      What are the Requirements?

      • You are over 18 years old
      • You hold the valid SIA training qualification
      • You have documents to prove your identity
      • You have the right to work in the UK

      The SIA criminal record check

The toughest part of the SIA licence application is the criminality check. Because having a criminal record does not mean you will not receive your SIA licence, the crimes you may have committed will be assessed on certain factors.

The crime’s frequency, duration and intensity will be considered when you apply for your licence. If you fail, youโ€™ll receive the check result, and this means youโ€™re disqualified. Because failure of criminality checks means you won’t get your SIA licence, it is advisable to do that before booking any courses.

What training is required to get the Licence?

Get Licensed offers the best training courses for you to take so you can obtain your SIA Licence. The security training courses Get Licensed offers are Door Supervisor, Security Guard, Close Protection and CCTV.

What documents are required for SIA Licence Application?

The SIA will give you instructions for the types of documents needed for the application. You must provide original copies of each. There are two categories of documents: Group A and Group B.

      Group A:

      • Current and valid UK passport
      • Signed valid passport of any other nationality
      • Driving license photocard if it was issued by the DVLA in Great Britain.
      • Driving license photocard and its paper counterpart issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
      • UK original birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth
