This course is designed for people who work with Abrasive Wheels. It will equip you with the necessary information about the proper legislation regarding Abrasive Wheels as you gain an understanding of the hazards and risks related to abrasive wheels and the machinery in the workplace.

How long is the course?

This is a 1-day in-house course.

What will I learn?

The Abrasive Wheels course focuses on the HSWA 1974 and PUWER Regulations to ensure learners understand the laws and legal implications of working with the required machinery and equipment. Learners will also learn how to use and mount various types of wheels and how to detect wheel defects.

By the end of this training program, learners will be able to:

Describe the hazards, risks, and controls for abrasive wheels (HSE-HSG17, SR21, CIS54)
Select an abrasive wheel to suit the material and task using the markings
Store, handle and transport abrasive wheels safely
Inspect and test abrasive wheels for damage and out-of-balance (HSE-HSG129)
Describe the names and functions of all the components of abrasive wheel assemblies, such as flanges, blotters, bushes, nuts, etc.
Assemble abrasive wheel units correctly to ensure they are balanced and safe.
Identify suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) required, such as rated eye protection.
Describe the methods of cutting/grinding.

Course Requirements

There are no formal requirements for this course, but you should have a competent level of English and be over 18 years.

Assessments and Certification

Delegates undertaking this abrasive Wheels course must sit a practical assessment at the end of the course training. The assessment will measure the learning outcomes for successful completion. After that, the results will be available within 5 to 7 working days.

Retakes

If you fail to pass the assessment the first time, you can retake the exam on the same day or within the next 90 days from the day of the initial assessment at no cost at all.
