What is the Red Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager License?

This CSCS Card will help you secure suitable roles within the sector by demonstrating that you have a solid understanding of health and safety requirements and the skills needed to manage trades to ensure they carry out their duties in the correct manner.

This card is valid for three years and cannot be renewed. It is issued on a temporary basis, while a Construction related NVQ or SVQ is being achieved. 

Eligibility

To qualify for the Red Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager CSCS Card you must have the following:

 

✅ Be enrolled on a relevant SVQ or NVQ level 3 course in site supervision or level 4 or higher in site management.

 

✅ Completed the CITB Health and Safety Test relevant to your occupation (e.g. Supervisors or Managers and Professionals)

 

How do I apply for an Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager Licence?

All applicants must be registered for the relevant Construction related NVQ or SVQ and have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test within the past two years. For Supervisor occupations you should take the Supervisors test and for Manager occupations you should take the Managers and Professionals test.

FAQs

CSCS Cards are issued as part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. The scheme aims to increase safety on construction sites and to ensure that those working in the construction industry have the necessary health and safety knowledge. Having a card contributes towards the overall safety and standard of a construction site.

The CSCS Card is not a legal requirement, but is highly recommended, as many contractors only employ those that have the card. Some construction projects may also have certain conditions regarding CSCS Cards, meaning you will need the card to work at certain sites.

The application cost to obtain a CSCS card is £30. However, there are also other costs for external tests or courses which increase the price.

Who pays for your CSCS Card depends on the agreement that you have with your employer. Some employers will pay for their staff to obtain a CSCS Card, others will expect the employee to pay for it themselves.

It takes up to 5 working days for your CSCS card to arrive. You will need to contact CSCS directly and apply for it. Make sure that you have your assessment certificate handy, as this will be required when you apply.

Three years with no possibility for renewal or extension.

Once you have completed your SVQ or NVQ level 3 or higher, you will be able to apply for a Gold (Supervisor) or Black (Manager) CSCS Card that lasts five years.
