What does the course include?

The SIA Close Protection course runs over 16 days and is divided into 3 units. Here we take a look at just some of the skills you will be taught and the knowledge you will gain during the course.

Unit 1: Working in The Private Security Industry

You will begin your course learning about the legal aspect of the private security industry. Your role as a Close Protection Officer is very important, and as a result, understanding the do’s and don’ts of how to behave and what to do in certain situations is extremely important to know.

Other noticeable aspects of this module are understanding the health and safety protocols of working in the security sector, this includes everything from fire safety awareness to knowing vital emergency procedures.

Unit 2: Working as a Close Protection Officer (CPO)

After learning about the legal aspects, you’ll next go over the behavioural standards expected from your role as a Close Protection Officer. There is a great deal of professionalism that is expected a Close Protection Officer. This unit will enable delegates to assess threats and mitigate exposure to those threats and plan and deliver a professional and effective security operation. But above all else, learn how to perform proficiently in all aspects associated with the professional delivery of protective security operations.

Unit 3: Conflict Management for The Private Security Industry

Part of your role as Close Protection Officer will be to defuse and prevent potential hazardous situations from arising. You will learn a wide range of skills including threat assessments, surveillance, team work, conflict management, vehicle techniques, IED awareness, communications and kidnap for ransom situation training.

In addition to the minimum course content required by the SIA, the Close Protection Training Course also includes the following elements:
