    What is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test?

    The CITB Health and Safety Test, also known as the CITB exam or CSCS test, is a mandatory exam for anyone applying for a Green CSCS Labourer Card. It proves you understand construction site safety, workplace hazards, and the health and safety standards required to work on UK construction sites.

    Most employers and principal contractors require workers to hold a valid CSCS card before they can start. Passing the CITB Health and Safety Test is the essential first step.

    Exam details

    The CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test is a multiple-choice exam lasting 45 minutes, with 50 test questions covering:

    • Site safety and hazard awareness
    • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
    • Manual handling
    • Working at height
    • Emergency procedures
    • Health and welfare on-site
    • High-risk activities

    The exam is taken at an approved CITB test centre. Working through CITB test practice questions and taking a CSCS mock test before your exam day gives you the best chance of passing first time.

    What to bring to the test centre

    To protect the integrity of the test, centre security is strict. You must bring one valid form of primary photo ID containing your signature. If you do not have this, you will be turned away and forfeit your fee.

    Accepted primary IDs:

    • A valid, in-date UK Photocard Driving Licence
    • A valid, in-date Passport (any nationality)
