If you have at least one year’s experience of working on a construction site, but hold no industry-recognised qualifications, then the temporary CSCS experienced worker card will make it easier to show prospective employers you can perform skilled tasks that are required as part of the job.

What is the experienced Worker Licence?

This card is available to workers with on the job experience (normally at least one year in the last three).

 

We make having a Red CSCS Experienced Worker Card a simple, stress-free process ✅

 

The card is valid for one year and cannot be renewed.  It is issued on a temporary basis, while a Construction Related QCF qualification is being achieved. It is expected to be replaced by a skilled five-year card on achievement of a Construction Related NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or higher.

 

NOTE - All applicants must have passed the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the past two years and be registered for the relevant Construction Related NVQ or SVQ.

 

Eligibility

Once you have registered for a relevant SVQ or NVQ you can apply for the Experienced Worker Card, which will prove that you are taking steps towards gaining a recognised construction qualification.

 

To qualify for the CSCS Experienced Worker Card you must have proof of your registration on a Construction NVQ or SVQ (level two or higher) and you should have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test relevant to your trade within the last two years.

FAQs

CSCS Cards are issued as part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. The scheme aims to increase safety on construction sites and to ensure that those working in the construction industry have the necessary health and safety knowledge. Having a card contributes towards the overall safety and standard of a construction site.

The CSCS Card is not a legal requirement, but is highly recommended, as many contractors only employ those that have the card. Some construction projects may also have certain conditions regarding CSCS Cards, meaning you will need the card to work at certain sites.

The application cost to obtain a CSCS card is £30. However, there are also other costs for external tests or courses which increase the price.

Who pays for your CSCS Card depends on the agreement that you have with your employer. Some employers will pay for their staff to obtain a CSCS Card, others will expect the employee to pay for it themselves.

It takes up to 5 working days for your CSCS card to arrive. You will need to contact CSCS directly and apply for it. Make sure that you have your assessment certificate handy, as this will be required when you apply.
