Wonderful experience being trained by…
Asuenimhen Harrison
Nov 06, 2025

"Wonderful experience being trained by Ben McCarty. He knows his job very well. Give us the trainees opportunities to express ourselves, ask questions and respond to them accordingly. But he is sometimes too fast with words that some of us who are not English native speakers sometimes find it a little difficult to follow along. But he’s a great trainer."

Completed the DS Top up course with Get licensed and passed. Adame who trained us was great, very professional and down to earth guy. Even though he’s had various jobs and years of experience in security he just treats you like a equal, no better than anyone attitude which is good. Professional training by trainers who WANT you to pass not a back street company. Will be definitely back again for further training. Thank you.

Yes, you must complete an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course before taking the Door Supervisor training.

A Door Supervisor is a licensed security professional trained to work in venues that serve alcohol, such as nightclubs, bars, and events. They also work in retail stores, corporate buildings, and festivals. In contrast, a Security Guard cannot work in licensed venues and is typically stationed in shopping centres, offices, and warehouses.

The exam includes multiple-choice questions and practical assessments. With proper preparation and course attendance, most candidates pass on their first attempt. Get Licensed also offers free exam retakes if needed.

Yes. While the term 'Bouncer' is commonly used, a Door Supervisor is the legal, SIA-recognised term. Bouncers often refer to unlicensed security staff, whereas Door Supervisors are fully trained and licensed professionals.

No, being muscular is not a requirement for becoming a door supervisor. Security work is about awareness, communication, and conflict resolution rather than physical strength. Training in de-escalation, conflict resolution, and situational awareness is more valuable than sheer size.

Yes, being a door supervisor is more about awareness, strategy, and training than height. Many professional security officers rely on defensive tactics and intelligence-based security strategies rather than physical intimidation.

Conflict management is the ability to prevent, handle, and resolve disputes using negotiation, de-escalation, and sometimes controlled physical intervention when required.

Yes, the training includes a module on conflict management in the private security industry, covering techniques for identifying conflict, de-escalation strategies, and tips for recognising risks.

Maintain a safe distance, use a firm but calm voice, and avoid physical confrontation if possible. Always follow proper security procedures and call for backup if needed. Our door supervisor training covers a module on physical intervention, including how to act in situations where you need to physically intervene and de-escalate situations.

While you don’t need extreme fitness, having basic endurance, agility, and the ability to stay alert for long shifts is beneficial. Physical intervention training may be required for certain door supervision roles.

Door supervisor salaries vary based on experience, location, and role. In the UK, the average pay ranges from £11 to £23 per hour for security guard and door supervisor roles, with higher wages for specialised roles like close protection officers (£50 to £100 per hour).

Getting to your training venue in Huddersfield

Door Supervisor training in Huddersfield happens at Pennine Manor Hotel, Nettleton Hill Road, Scapegoat Hill, Huddersfield HD7 4NH.

It’s a little remote, but the scenery more than makes up for that, and it’s a great way of focusing your mind on your course.
Remember to bring your ID to the venue, and show up on time each day.

Getting to Pennine Manor Hotel, Huddersfield by train

It can be a little bit challenging reaching the Huddersfield Door Supervisor training location by train alone. You’ll have to grab a cab from the station when you arrive to get you the rest of the way.

The closest train station is Slaithwaite Train Station, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield HD7 5EF. Lines here connect to Manchester, Leeds and York.

Parking at Pennine Manor Hotel, Huddersfield

There’s good road access to your Huddersfield Door Supervisor training, and plenty of onsite parking too. That makes driving to your course one of the easiest transport options for Huddersfield Door Supervisor training.

Parking onsite here is probably your best bet. The venue is surrounded by countryside, with a few small villages nearby. That means car parks aren’t in ample supply around here, so good job you can park at the venue!

Pennine Manor Hotel walkability

The scenic Pennine Manor Hotel is surrounded on all sides by meadows, farmland and greenery. While that makes the idea of walking around the venue very appealing, and a great way to relax and think over the lesson you’ve learned on your course, it unfortunately doesn’t make it easy to walk to the venue itself.

It’s a good idea to take the same precautions you would on any English countryside road if you’re walking outside the venue. Wear high-visibility clothing after dark, and watch out for anyone driving down the country roads too fast!

Accommodation around Pennine Manor Hotel

The fact that your Huddersfield Door Supervisor training venue is a hotel makes finding accommodation easy! This is a gorgeous, scenic hotel too, and well worth staying in if you need to be onsite. It helps make sure you’re always on time and on point for your training.

If you’d rather have a bit more personal space when relaxing between training days though, there are lots of other nearby hotels too.

For a more exclusive stay, try Belle Vue Barn, 1 Rochdale Rd, Huddersfield HD7 4NN. It’s tucked on the other side of the village, giving you a home from home from your training venue.

There’s also the Old Golf House a bit further north, on New Hey Road, Outlane, Huddersfield HD3 3YP.

Food and Drink around Pennine Manor Hotel

While you’re training to be a Door Supervisor in a remote part of Huddersfield, the good news is your venue itself has lots of good food in its Hilltop Restaurant area. The continental breakfasts come especially well-recommended!

This is a beautiful part of the North though, and we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to eat elsewhere to keep your mind sharp for your training. The Scape House Inn is a short drive down to 74, The High Street, Golcar, Scapegoat Hill, Huddersfield HD7 4NJ. There’s a menu mixing pub grub and Thai tapas here, sure to please any appetite.

Drive north instead, and you’ll find the fantastic Indian food of Outlane Spice, 843 New Hey Road, Huddersfield HD3 3FG. Believe us when we say a big day of training gets you in the mood for a big dinner!

SIA Job Opportunities in Huddersfield

Huddersfield has a rich industrial history, but nowadays the local businesses, venues and culture are really varied. The great news is, that means Huddersfield SIA security jobs are always in high demand.

Pubs, clubs and Huddersfield nightlife venues always need skilled door supervisors. However, keep in mind that a Door Supervisor Licence lets you work in security in a number of other types of business, not just working the door at night.

You’ll also find lots of supermarkets and offices looking for security professionals, for instance, as well as the constant demand for security work at The John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield Art Gallery or the Longley Park Golf Club.
