The CCTV Operator course is a 3-day training program that teaches you how to legally monitor security cameras and work in a control room. Completing this course allows you to apply for an SIA CCTV licence, which is required to work as a CCTV operator in the UK.

Lots of people can benefit from a CCTV Operator course. Qualified security professionals who want to grow their skills and/or become eligible to get a job as a CCTV operator will benefit from this course, but so will people exploring their job options in security work for the first time.

There is no official maximum age limit to work in security. As long as you can meet the physical and mental demands of the job, you can work in the industry. Many older professionals thrive in CCTV and concierge roles. While employers may have specific requirements (e.g. hiring security guards who haven’t yet turned 60), there’s no official upper age limit, and you can still apply for security roles you’re physically fit for.

You’ll need an SIA CCTV Operator licence, which requires completing a regulated CCTV Operator training course. Depending on the role you’re applying for, you may also be asked to complete additional training courses, such as the security guard training course or door supervisor course. You must also be eligible to work in the UK and be able to communicate in English.

By UK law, you must have an SIA CCTV licence to operate security cameras in public spaces or businesses. Without it, you cannot legally work as a CCTV operator.

CCTV operator salaries vary based on experience, location, and role. In the UK, the average pay ranges from £15 to £20 per hour for CCTV operator roles.
